ot long after last Friday's rant, I heard a number of songs while driving around in my car that pretty much did the same thing I've been bitching about for a little while now. The last straw was hearing some jagoff essentially use all of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me," while cutting-and-pasting his rap over the top.

I wanted to shoot my stereo. I wanted to shoot it right in its stupid face. Instead, I gave the power button a good slappin', bellowing a righteous, "Enough with the bullshit!"

My girlfriend was in the car with me (as the trip we were on was a mission to find some decent living room furniture), and a lively debate about the opinion of music and what is deemed "creative" ensued. Regarding the song mentioned above, my viewpoint involved the word "plagiarism." Her viewpoint involved the words "another form of expression." We are at an official impasse; she enjoys some of the songs. I simply do not.

As strange as it feels to say, I gained a new respect for old music when I was working at a grocery store, of all places. After a few years of the same thing getting pounded into your ears over and over again, you can't not like it.

On a completely unrelated note, it's been a while since we've seen an update at one of my personal favorites, Alien Loves Predator (as if I'm one to talk, but that's besides the point). Drop by Bernie's wonderful site and give him some love.

"No your mom's on the phone!"

Finally, I'd like to add that I'm quite encouraged about my efforts in LIPP. Once in a while, I'll come across someone who's linked me in their blog or what-have-you. The link lists are usually quite short, but they involve some incredible talent, such as Perry Bible Fellowship, xkcd, and Penny Arcade.

It's pretty flattering. Thanks.
